EMH recently hired Malavika Balachandran as a senior consultant. Malavika is excited to work with EMH clients and the New Orleans community.
What is your hometown?
I was born near Nashville, TN, but grew up in Baton Rouge, LA – I’m a true southerner at heart. As a child I wanted to go far, far away, but after seven years in New Jersey and New York, I wanted to be closer to home and return to Louisiana.
What are your hobbies?
I love crafts – I spend a lot of my free time working on card making or knitting. I’m also an avid cycler; last year I did the Northeast AIDS ride where I cycled from Boston to New York City to fundraise for AIDS prevention, support, and treatment programs.
What are your areas of interest?
Strategy, financial modeling, hospitality industry
What is your favorite thing in New Orleans so far?
Eating has been my favorite thing to do in New Orleans so far. Being vegetarian, I expected New Orleans to be a difficult place to live as a foodie, but it’s actually been much easier than I expected. My favorite so far is the vegetarian boudin at Commander’s Palace.
What is on your New Orleans bucket list?
Given my love of eating, my goal is to eat at every John Besh restaurant (so far I’ve done three), and Shaya is at the top of my list. I’m also hoping to do the New Orleans Half Ironman next April.
